		<description>Understand Life's Information
Helices aims to be the leading informatics platform for sequencing DNA in labs all over the world. The name and inspiration from the double helix of DNA is in part inspired by the layer of subtle, yet natural patterns everywhere especially in the geometry of Fibonacci and other natural phenomena.

Thus the identity needed to convey Helices main role of helping researchers, clinicians and others to notice these patterns and patterns of patterns and patterns within patterns inside human genetics. By focusing on an isolation of the DNA helix to find the initial “h,” the identity fundamentally reveals the organization's basic motivation: Understand Life's Information.

		<description>LRCC District Annual Reports
Enrolling 90,000 students within a 2,400 sq. mile service area, the Los Rios Community College District asked me to design annual reports that featured a spread for each of their four accredited colleges along with financials.

In order to compose the distinct college pages without partiality, I applied the chosen colors similarly and focused on reserved typography along grids to give interest and lend sophistication. I was also aware of the sometimes delicate public affairs in the state-funded sector and attempted to avoid ostentatious display throughout. This simplification ended up cutting time and costs in pre-press and printing as well.

		<description>RobbJack Applications Guide
I was approached to lead and execute a 128-page catalog redesign, integrating 6,500 rotary cutting tools and their unique specifications within a common iconographic system. This united the European catalogs and US catalogs into one “applications guide.” I did production of the guide with intelligent nested styles and anchored object styles which enabled global changes to all aspects of the document and set the stage for XML-generated catalogs in the future.

The success of this guide won a contract to redesign a powerful public website which capitalized on the print system in order to build out a database and graphical search engine.

This identity was produced for a California state training initiative serving both students and businesses in the transportation and logistics industries. It was designed to flexibly show coordinating parts with direction as the dominant motif. Coincidentally, the client ended up choosing a different visual direction.

		<description>Vespers in the City
I was approached to help manage the visual identity for an urban Christian church plant. From the team gathered to work on it, one leader collected feedback to articulate the inspiration, then we came together in an ad hoc ideation blitz to generate a visual direction that was then vetted by ecclesial advisers.

Historically, vespers means “evening worship”. This identity sought to communicate coming together in the evening, at the end of a week, to repair and prepare around the Christian message of the gospel. Additional vision was provided by an old hymn text by Henry Twells (b.1868):
Once more ‘til eventide, and we, Oppressed with various ills, draw near:
What if Thy form we cannot see? We know and feel that Thou art here.
It needed to be historic yet fresh, strong yet open. To convey all of this, the final direction used serif type justified flush right preceding a common square (an urban gathering place) whose color changes according to the liturgical Christian calendar.

		<description>Gladstone Engineering
This identity set about to highlight the aerospace applications which had established Gladstone as an expert predictive structural engineering contractor for NASA's rocket propulsion sector. However, the identity needed to remain figurative enough to assist the company's expansion into industrial applications and high-performance racing yachts.

My role was to walk our agency's student intern through the ideation process of a visual identity. From generating ideas and sketches to vectorizing and refinement, through stages of testing and client review, I managed the visual concept and production until we had final approval from the creative director.

		<description>RobbJack Corporation Public Website
Taking the visual system established in their redesigned applications guide, I designed and guided conversations around a large public website rebuild with use of information architecture and user experience design. Gathering capabilities from a specialized developer, I began with low-fidelity static prototypes and progressively increased fidelity as the information architecture grew.

Thirty-six static grayscreen mockups illustrated behavior of the global search engine and inspired buy-in on the entire public site. It took its structural cues from the information system in the printed guide while capitalizing on the robust data model which is eventually to be the content foundation for more extensible printed guides in the future.

		<description>BEC Statewide Identity Program
Set within the complex framework of California's 79 district community college system serving 2.9M Californians each year, this statewide business training and entrepreneurship advocacy initiative had to have a flexible identity. Known mostly by its acronym, BEC needed to be postured as the source for emerging business connections centered around entrepreneurship with individually typeset logos for seven centers.

		<description>Merging Global Brands
After rice-based food ingredient manufacturer PGP International® purchased the whey-protein powerhouse Protient Inc., they approached us to conceive of a redesigned PGP identity that incorporated the nature of the new brand. I art directed and designed the pitch which focused on combining their reputable extrusion processing with the sports-oriented protein isolation. The single molded particulate, adapted from Protient's logo was at the core of the redesign and brings contrast and meaning to the identity.

Before completing the international trademark registrations, the project was discontinued when PGP was fully adopted into the $16.8 billion global food conglomerate Associated British Foods.
